Earlier this year, the Akron Municipal Court appointed Scott Newman to serve as a full-time Magistrate. Administrative/Presiding Judge David Hamilton administered Magistrate Newman’s oath of office on Monday, April 3, 2023.
Magistrates are non-elected judicial officers and are appointed by the Judges of the Court. Akron Municipal Court Magistrates serve all six Akron Municipal Court Judges and preside over small claims, civil, traffic and criminal matters.
“We are proud to have Magistrate Newman as part of the Akron Municipal Court team,” said Administrative/Presiding Judge David Hamilton. “His experience as a Magistrate and his passion for public service is quite impressive.”
Magistrate Newman received his Bachelor of Arts degrees from Rice University in 2010 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Akron School of Law in 2013.
Prior to working at the Akron Municipal Court, he served as Judicial Attorney, Mediation Magistrate and Trial Magistrate for the Medina County Domestic Relations Court. Magistrate Newman also worked in private practice primarily handling domestic relations cases.
Magistrate Newman and his wife reside in West Akron with their sons and dog.
