Judge Jon Oldham Named Akron Municipal Court's Presiding Judge For 2019
01/03/2019

Judge Jon Oldham will serve as the administrative/presiding judge of the Akron Municipal Court for 2019.

In this role, Judge Oldham will oversee the administration, docket, and calendar as well as the observance of the rules of superintendence and the timely reporting and termination of all cases in the court.

Judge Oldham was elected to the bench in 2015. He is a graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School and earned degrees from Ohio University and The University of Akron School of Law. Prior to becoming a judge, he served our community as a law clerk working for the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, an attorney, a visiting magistrate for the Akron Municipal Court, and magistrate to Judge Elinore Marsh Stormer in the Summit County Probate Court.

In addition to his caseload, he leads Akron Recovery Court, a specialized docket intended for drug abuse offenders who are typically charged with misdemeanor drug offenses of the first or second degree. Through Recovery Court, drug abuse offenders have the opportunity to have their charges dismissed once they successfully meet all the demands of the program, including treatment, aftercare, sobriety, case management, and drug free status for 12 consecutive months.

“In the next year, we will continue to focus efforts on upholding our state certified and nationally recognized specialized dockets, enhancing programs and services, and building relationships with community partners. I am proud to serve the Akron Municipal Court and our jurisdiction in this role and am confident 2019 will be a positive year for our community,” said Judge Oldham.

A new administrative/presiding judge is elected by the six Akron Municipal Court Judges each year. Judge Oldham’s duties in this capacity began January 1, 2019.

Judge Oldham resides in Akron with his wife, Megan, and their three children.
