Akron Municipal Court Welcomes New Court Administrator

Last month, the Akron Municipal Court Judges appointed William E. Owens, Esq. to serve as Court Administrator. The Court Administrator manages the overall operations of the court, implements policies and procedures and supervises division managers, magistrates and staff attorneys.
Attorney Owens has more than two decades of legal and administrative experience. He holds both a Juris Doctorate and a Bachelor of Science degree from Cleveland State University.
He began serving in various capacities within the civilian sector of the United States Federal Government in 2001 and is a decorated United States Air Force Veteran. He received the Air Force Achievement Medal for Meritorious Service, the United States Air Force Military Airlift Command Professional Image Award and the United States Department of Labor Secretary’s Exceptional Achievement Award.
“Attorney Owens has an extensive background in employment law and operations management which made him a top candidate for this role,” said Administrative/Presiding Judge David Hamilton. “My fellow Judges and I are confident he will make a tremendous impact on our jurisdiction.”
Attorney Owens has prior court management and employee relations experience, as he served as Court Administrator for the Cleveland Municipal Court’s Housing Division and subsequently as the Chief Human Resource Officer with the City of Cleveland’s Department of Public Utilities. He also held key roles as an Administrative Hearing Officer and as a member of the management team with the United States Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation and the United States Postal Service.
Roughly 55 staff members work at the Akron Municipal Court. The Akron Municipal Court is one of the busiest municipal courts in the state. In 2025, the Court saw 46,510 cases throughout its civil, criminal and parking divisions.
In his free time, Attorney Owens enjoys spending time with his family and mentoring the youth through a variety of community outreach programs.
