Akron Municipal Court Administrative/Presiding Judge David Hamilton was presented with the Akron Bar Association’s 2023 Diversity Award earlier this week.

The Akron Bar Association Diversity Committee served as the selection committee.

The award was presented to Judge Hamilton during the annual Law Day Luncheon which took place Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at Greystone Hall in Downtown Akron.

This award celebrates a business, organization or individual that demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusion in Summit County.

This Law Day Luncheon was a part of the Akron Bar Association’s Law Week festivities. Each year, the American Bar Association determines a week in early May to be celebrated as Law Week. The national theme for 2023 is “Cornerstones of Democracy: Civics, Civility, and Collaboration.” Local Bar Associations across the country are encouraged to celebrate Law Week to honor and thank those in the legal profession for their contributions.

Last month, it was announced that Judge Hamilton was appointed to the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Commission for Professional Responsibility and that he received a Humanitarian Award during the 33^rd Annual Harold K. Stubbs Virtual Awards Celebration.

“I am proud to serve my hometown and I take my job very seriously,” said Judge Hamilton. “Being a good role model to the next generation is important to me. I love what I do, but it is truly an honor to know that my hard work has been recognized.”

Hamilton was first elected to the Akron Municipal Court bench in 2019. He was selected by the Akron Municipal Court Judges to be the Administrative/Presiding Judge for the 2023 calendar year.

Also recognized during the luncheon, in addition to Judge Hamilton, were Liberty Bell Award Winner Judge Jennifer Hensal and Public Service Award Winner Dr. Doug Smith.
