Judge David Hamilton

Judge David Hamilton was born and raised in Akron. He is a graduate of Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA) and received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology as well as minors in Criminal Justice and Criminology from the University of Akron. Judge Hamilton earned his Juris Doctorate at the Western Michigan University’s Thomas M. Cooley School of Law.

Judge Hamilton was elected to the bench in both 2019 and 2023. He was selected to be the Administrative/Presiding Judge for the Akron Municipal Court for 2023.

Judge Hamilton is a former Prosecutor and Judicial Attorney in Akron Municipal Court. He also served as the District 5 Summit County Councilman. As the Chair of Public Safety, he started and spearheaded the Summit County Jail Advisory Commission in 2017. He is also the founder of the MY-STARS Summer Youth Enrichment Camp; designed for youth to gain exposure to “real world” skills and experiences needed for success in future planning for school and life. Being a Prosecutor and Councilman taught him the importance of public safety and fairness.

Judge Hamilton is involved in many civic and non-profit organizations. He is a former Board Member of Victim Assistance Program and a current Board Member of AxessPointe Community Health Centers, Summit County Land Bank and the First Tee of Greater Akron. He is also a Class 34 graduate of Leadership Akron. He was awarded the BMe fellowship, the Greater Akron Chamber 30 For The Future Award and Crain’s Cleveland Business Forty under 40.

Judge Hamilton is passionate about helping people and it is his desire to use his skill set and legal background to give back to his community.
